Letters written to Sir Francis de Winton during a Royal Visit to Australia [manuscript]. 1901.

Two handwritten, signed letters from Prince George, Duke of Cornwall and York, later King George V, on notepaper of HMS "Ophir" which accommodated the Duke and Duchess during their Empire Tour. The letters to Sir Francis de Winton the Duke's Comptroller, are written "At sea - HMS "Ophir" - Sydney to New Zealand - June 8th 1901" and "At sea - HMS "Ophir" - Adelaide to Fremantle July 18th 1901". The Duke refers to the Royal reception in Australia, the voyage, the ongoing Boer War and his personal finances and domestic arrangements. The letters are mounted on cards containing handwritten transcriptions of the correspondence.
